Great tool: ASDebugger

Ids klijnsma, friend and colleague of mine, has made this great tool that I’d like to give attention to. It’s a new and great actionscript debugger for as3 flex and flash projects.

While the flash and flex ide have great debuggers it’s always a problem when your project is already online and if you want to trace complicated objects. ASDebugger does this trick for you.

Adobe Flash Video Event 27 March

Yesterday I went down to Amsterdam to join an Adobe event on flash video on behave of my employer TFE. Ofcourse it was all a marketing trick to promote adobe’s products but I must say it was quite oke! It started to impress me with the location for this event which was in a television studio which is used weekdays for talkshows based about recent events. I never have been to a tv studio before so it was pretty nice to see all that camera’s and lighting. And a part of the event was a presentation by Dutchview ( a tv show producer ) on how all the stuff works. All is digital. No more bad old tapes. They also showed us that it was possible to create a recap within a couple of minutes after a for example a live football broadcast. All due to this digital processing.

Strict JSON validator

Since last week I’m working on a personal project which is using a JSON string. Now all was working fine but on some results I was having problems parsing it to JSON.

I’m using the JSON parser in the as3 corelib which has been written by Darron Schnall. It’s a very strict parser and the JSON I get back sometimes isn’t that well formatted.

Saving in Flash or Flex

I’m running around with following thoughts quit some time now. Why can’t adobe build in save options in flash and flex? Is it because safety issues? I don’t think that would be an issue, cause the same can be achieved with javascript, c, java, php, and the rest you can sum up. Or is it because Apollo is being released soon and Adobe is hoping in a increase in popularity because this “feature” is probably supported in Apollo? I say build it in flash and flex so we don’t have to work with annoying 3th party software. And if someone can explain it to me why it isn’t build in, I would be happy to hear it, cause I would love to understand it.

At some days you have about a million project that needs your expertise and ofcourse you have to keep track on how much time you spend on these projects otherwise “the boss” will continue threatening you with corporal punishments ( Just kiddin’ boss )
On my macbook I use project calculator which is a great tool for keeping track on your projects, but at work i’m using a windows machine so i had to look for another program that works simple and has no fuss. Well I tried to ask the allmighty google but there was not really a program that satisfied my needs. So I decided to start building my own…and yeah in flex. Since we have another tool to write down the hours I decided not to go deep on saving and projects. It currently just saves to a sharedObject (waiting on apollo here and keeps track on the jobs you are doing. For a later version this could be better.

Well check it out (Right click and save as to download ) and let me know if it works for you and the improvements you would like to see.
